Restoring Voter Rights
LWV Louisville received a grant from the Louisville Bar Foundation to educate and register voters who have had their voting rights taken away because of a felony conviction. We will be working with ABLE (Advocacy Based on Lived Experience), the Louisville Urban League and the NAACP at various events to help people regain their right to vote and register them. We need volunteers to serve on a committee to coordinate these efforts, become trained and table at these events. Volunteers are needed to commit to two hours at a time on Thursdays from August 27 - through the election. Training will be provided. If you are interested, please refer to the weekly newsletter or send email to lwvlouisville@gmail.com.
Congress Needs You - Join the Effort to Organize the DC Mobilization
League of Women Voters of Illinois in coordination with the League of Women Voters of Kentucky submitted a resolution in support of continued mobilization to hold Congress accountable:
Therefore, be it resolved that the League of Women Voters, in a public and visible manner through national mobilization, reaffirm its declaration of a constitutional crisis as well as its efforts to hold Congress accountable for protecting the rule of law, defending the Constitution, and ending executive overreach.
This resolution passed and a grassroots coalition of League members from all of the country are currently working on how to bring this resolution to life by October 1. Our vision is a prolonged, persistent presence in Washington DC with 10-30 League members protesting in front of the Capitol with each State adopting a week and organizing volunteers. We are looking for volunteers in these 5 areas:
1. Vision /Strategy
2. Movement Building
3. Resources
4. Project Planning
5. Logistics
As we reach out to LWVUS for resources, we need to demonstrate a willingness from members to play a part in this effort! If you are interested, please click on the link below and submit the form with your information. Completing the form does not commit you to protesting in DC.
