Justice for Lorenzo and Johan
On July 25, the League of Women Voters of Louisville joined with other local and national organizations to host a vigil in Louisville for Lorenzo and Johan, recent victims of ICE violence. On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston while driving a work van with his crew. On July 13, ICE fatally shot 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine — his wife and toddler forced to witness his murder. Both men were beloved members of their communities, killed on their way to work.
We remember and honor Lorenzo, Johan and over 70 others who have died at the hands of ICE.

LWV Defends Immigrant Rights
The League of Women Voters US joined a coalition letter to members of Congress concerning the recent ICE shootings of Mr. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, Texas and of Mr. Joan Sebastian Guerrero Biddeford, Maine. The letter calls on congress to hold ICE accountable by demanding a full, independent, and transparent investigation into what led to these deaths, and to bring ICE and CBP under control of Congress, the courts, and the Constitution.
